Discovery plans 'Green' channel

Here is a Baltimore Business Journal story about an upcoming addition to the Discovery portfolio of shows. This is another good sign of the positive environmental transition that is taking place in our society today:

Riding on the tails of its successful "Planet Earth" series, Discovery Communications will launch a 24-hour channel devoted entirely to eco-friendly living.

The Silver Spring-based company says it will replace the Discovery Home channel with a channel devoted to ecologically responsible travel and living.

Discovery will spend $50 million on original programming for the channel, expected to debut next year. Among the initial series will be one called "Ten Ways to Save the Planet," scheduled to begin in the third quarter of next year.

The company has received glowing reviews for its "Planet Earth" series that started on its main Discovery Channel last month. The series was produced by the BBC.

In addition to launching the eco-friendly channel, Discovery will sponsor a PlanetGreen Innovation Conference and convert its Silver Spring headquarters into a carbon-neutral building.
